Woman sacrificed ‘at God’s

A HORRIFYING case of human
"sacrifice" in a remote south Tripura village three days ago was reported here
today. A woman was beheaded by two young men who said they were "acting on God's
orders" and in the belief that they would be led to a hidden treasure.
The two suspected killers said they received
"the word of God" in their dreams which said that they had to
"sacrifice" three women at His altar before they would be led to by Him to a
"treasure" of immense value. They found their first victim on Monday and had
begun their search for two more when the police caught them.
"God promised us the key to a hidden
treasure if we satisfied him with three human sacrifices," Satya Tripura and Prem
Kumar Tripura told the police after they were arrested today.
Even while in custody, the accused duo has
been talking of "completing" the unfinished, "divinely ordained" task.
The two men are clearly in a highly abnormal state of mind. Police officers had to rough
them to rein in their abnormal behavior.
The bizarre incident of human-sacrifice came
to light when the headless body of the young woman was found near a temple in the
Manubazar area of Sabroom sub-division.
South Tripura Additional SP Arindom Nath said
that after a police team questioned residents of the village in which the body was found,
it was clear that this was no conventional murder. Tipped off that the case was one of
human sacrifice, the police yesterday zeroed in on Satya and Prem Kumar of the same
village.
The identity of the victim is still to be
established, the police said. The duo apparently told the police that the victim was
mentally imbalanced
